Stockings 101 – stuffers, budget and more!

December 14, 2017

Many of us spend a lot of time putting together a Christmas budget, but rarely factor in the cost of filling the stockings. Beware…before you know it, all the trinkets and random what-nots can really add up, and could have you spending more on the stockings than the gifts. Follow our stocking stuffer tips to stay on budget this year!

Budget:
On average, $35 per stocking is reasonable, regardless of age. It may not seem like much, but if you have 5 people in your family, that’s an extra $175 just on stockings, so be sure to stick to your budget.

Stuffers:
Every family has their own stocking traditions. Here’s a list of a few cleaver stocking stuffers that won’t break the bank.

  • Orange or other delicious fruit
  • Small gift cards that are $10 or less (Amazon, iTunes, Starbucks)
  • Candy, favorite sweet treats
  • Lottery tickets
  • Warm socks, gloves, winter beanie
  • Toothbrush, floss, toothpaste
  • Golf tees or balls
  • Small toys, rubix cube, matchbox cars, trading cards, harmonica
  • Magazine, small book, coloring books, stickers
  • Tickets to the zoo, musical or concert
  • Nail polish, cuticle set
  • Hair accessories
  • Fishing lures
  • Travel sized games (Connect Four, Uno), playing cards
  • Magnets, keychains, Swiss army knife
  • ChapStick, lip gloss, hand sanitizer
  • Wine stopper, wine aerator
  • Cell phone charger
  • Coffee or tea mug

With a little forethought and a few of the suggestions above, you can easily stay within a reasonable, yet festive stocking budget. Happy holidays!
