It's not uncommon for our office to hear of scams involving fake IRS agents as a method to obtain valuable information from the public.  You can read up on the current scam at

Keep in mind the IRS will make their initial contact with you in writing by mail. 


They will not correspond with you by email and will only contact you by phone or in person after they have sent you correspondence in writing.
